First Ultrasound

Ziggy Lives!
We had our first ultrasound yesterday and got our first proof of life in the form of a flickering heartbeat. We were very pleased to learn that, given our combined genetic makeup, Ziggy is at a significantly lower risk of defects or malformations during this extremely critical stage of fetal development. Hooray for racial mixing! Or as Ziggy's soon-to-be Grandpa K might say, hooray for hybrid vigor!

Incidentally, all these forms we have to fill out for our new doctors and perinatal specialists require us to put down not only our medical histories but also our racial makeup. This is pretty straightforward for me (I only fall into one category - Asian Indian), but Dad-to-be has a colorful mix of European, Japanese, and Chinese coursing through his veins. Ziggy will end up being 1/2 Indian, 1/4 White, 1/8 Japanese, 1/8 Chinese, and a pro at fractions.

At 8 weeks and 3 days, we are more than 20% of the way there, and we can't wait to meet you, Ziggy!
